4rail.net - Electric Locomotives in Germany

Welcome to the Electric Locomotives used in Germany Page! Most of the locomotives have either German or Swiss classification. Below you will find all the types in use and given some time also their technical details. There are also be pages for the Diesel Locomotives, Electric Multiple Units and Diesel Multiple Units.

While refurbishing lasts we have preserved the old page...

DB Br101 number 080 in Leer, Germany

Class 101 is a very popular locomotive seen hauling mainly high speed intercity trains in Germany. At the time of it's building it was a real power house and in many details also a trend setter for the later locomotive designs.

-> Notes:
     - The original Alp46 of New Jersey Transit is very similar outwardly to
         the DB class 101. (Later units by Bombardier are hybrid Electric +
         diesel and while the origins are satill visible, the loco is quite
         massive).
     - Many units serve as an advertisement platofrm so you might be able
         to see the loco in just about any color. 23
