 4rail.net - Reference - Rolling stock - 2M62 and M62, even 3M62

The 2M62 and M62 types were built in thousands for Soviet Union in 1960s to as late as 1980s. The type was used ans still is for the main line heavy haul duties. The 2M62 is a double unit for heavy freight duties where the M62 is used for several duties mainly on the freight side, even switching!

The type 2M62 and M62 can be found mainly on the ex. eastern block countries including Latvia, Lithuania, Russia itself and outside the ex. block in Finland.

Lets start with extremes: here a truly rare form of the M62, the 3M62U number 0011 in Russian Karelia! 3 modernized M62 units  are coupled together to create a formidable powerhorse of 4500 kW. The U stands for refurbished unit. Below the 2M62U number 0093 in Latvia pulling a heavy freight train. Pictures by Ilkka Siissalo 2009.

And finally, the solitary M62K number 1229 in Lithunia. This unit is switching in Panevezys station. Picture by Ilkka Siissalo. Notice the almost identiccal coloring in each locomotive taken in three different countries!
