![]() The Zagreb tram operators new tram TMK 2200 number 2263 has been tested in Helsinki Finland during the Finnish winter period. The Helsinki City tram operator Helsingin Kaupungin Liikennelaitos (City traffic of Helsinki), has been testing the unit since the early December. The testruns were initially done mostly during the nights when there is little other traffic, should the tram get stuck. According to HKL the tram successfully cleared all sharp turns on the HKL tram network (there are a lot of them, both horisontal and vertical!) and continues testing during daytime with sandbags as load. The tram was run normal tram services 21. january onwards as plans suggested. HKL ticketing devices were fitted for smooth operation. Due to the mild winter (no winter) year 2008 it is doubtful, that the icing and the heavy snow conditions will be tested successfully. Several members of the editing team of the 4rail.net test ran the tram and noticed that while it is clean, light and has a lot of space inside, it is noisy as well (even as new). The editor talked with one of the drivers, who confirmed that the construction has had been working smoothly all the time without any problems, and the annoying noise does not reach the drivers compartment. CROTRAM which is a Croatian consortium behind the TMK 2200 consists of Koncar Elektroindustrija d.d. and TZV Gredelj d.o.o., both from Zagreb. After testing period the tram will be returned to it's owner ZET of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Helsinki and Zagreb are about equal in size.
