  4rail.net - Estonia - Diesel Multiple Units

Welcome to the Estonian Diesel Multiple Units Page! Below you will find all the few types in use and given some time also their technical details. There are also pages for the Electric Multiple Units and Diesel Locomotives and in the near future also the MOV Equipment Page. Estonia is one of the few European countries with no electric locomotives so that page does not exist.

The Future will be for GTW 2/8 and/or GTW2/6 of Stadler
Seetalbahn

The future will bring the Swiss Stadler GTW2/6 and/or GTW2/8 units to the rails. This will doom the totally obsolidated DR1 units from on years 2014.  The 10 units + 10 units option lease will be used to remove the current backward DR1 DMUs. Lease is to be funded from the Estonian state budget and is estimated to be around 6 -7 million euros per year for the first 10 units.

In the picture above the SBB owned and operated class 520 GTW2/8 in Lenzburg, Switzerland and below of Arriva operated GTW2/6 in Groeningen, Holland.
