Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto (PKJ)

Junakalusto owns the trains for the HRT, the public body arranging the Helsinki Metropolitan area traffic. The target is also to organize the maintenance and services the trains need. Currently these are provided for the trains by the only existing organization, the VR-Yhtyma. VR also operates Junakalusto Flirt trains.

There will be 32 new class Sm5 Flirt trains at Junakalusto roster by the end of the 2013. More new trains will however needed in 2014-15, so we expect to see new orders for the rolling stock this year.

Junakalusto Class Sm5 on test drive meets Sm4 of VR-Yhtyma in Kerava, just outside Helsinki, Finland

Finnish railroad organizations and railroad operators have their own pages, as well as the largest operator VR-Yhtyma and a newcomer to the field Junakalusto.

While much of the passenger traffic concentrates around the capital Helsinki, you might be interested in the roster pictures of VR-Yhtyma, Junakalusto and the city of Helsinki operator HKL. HKL operates the metro and narrow gauge trams.
