GE ES44AC Locomotives (CSX class: ES44AH)
The General Electric built powerful ES44Ac locomotives are the most recent purchase for the CSX fleet. Many new units will be delivered throught 2013 - 2014.

One of the Eastern RR special models has been the 10% derated ES40s. Only CSX and NS own these locos.

Units built: 302 for CSX

CSX was one of the largest customers for this GE top of the line AC locomotive.

Unit numbers: forward from 1, many are three digit numbers

CSX C40-8W number 7395 is leading autorack at Shenandoah junction, West Virginia, U.S.A.

GE C40-8W Locomotives
C40-8W is the first model of the current line of most favorite U.S. railroad GE built locomotives. Wide nose was introduced also novelty at the time. For CSX some locos came through Conrail and LMSX.

Units built: 375 (97 from Conrail and 11 from LMSX)

CSX SD80MAC number 4601 in Maryland, U.S.A. EMD SD80MAC Locomotives
SD80MAC was a special model for CSX predecessor Conrail. Along with a sister loco SD90s the SD80MAC introduces the large flared radiators.

Units built: 28 for Conrail out of which 13 to CSX
Unit numbers
: 4590–4602 (originally 800-812)

: 120 km/h (75 mph)

CSX SD70AC number 4720 at Point of rocks, Maryland, U.S.A. EMD SD70MAC Locomotives
SD70MAC is a quite often seen road power for the CSX too. Some have flared radiator grilles, some straight.

Units built: 220 for CSX    
Unit numbers: 4500–4574, 4575–4589, 4701–4830
Maximum allowed speed: 120 km/h (75 mph)  
Power: 3206 kW (4300 Hp), start 780 kN (175'000 lbf)

CSX SD40-3 number 4031 at Weverton, Maryland, U.S.A. EMD SD40-3 Locomotives
SD40-3 is a great example of the design that can change the old used rolling stock to enough new condition to significantly lengthen its life span. Units were built from SD40-2 locos.

Units built: 50 rebuilt at CSX    
Unit numbers: 4000 - 4049 + possibly more being rebuilt in 2015.
Maximum allowed speed: 105 km/h (65 mph)  
Power: 3206 kW (4300 Hp), start 580 kN (130'000 lbf)

Some of the legendary SD40-2 work horses are still in active duty at CSX. The rebuilding program to SD40-3 is likely to continue for these in 2015.

Units built: over 350 to CSX predecessors
Unit numbers: 1259–1278, 3554-3612, 6358-6524 8000-39, 8067-86, 8095-8126, 8133-62
Maximum allowed speed: 105 km/h (65 mph)  
Power: 2240 kW (3000 Hp), start 409 kN (92'000 lbf)

One of the most numerous four axle road switchers GP38-2 is used by CSX too.
