Welcome to the Norwegian Railways Main Page! Norway is the other true mountain railroading country in Europe besides Switzerland and both have surpassed enormous obstacles building and operating railroads. But these challenges still face the railroad building and operations today and the limiting factor always seems to be the money. In Norway the winter operating conditions can be very extreme, still the rolling stock must work its way throught snow, sleet and ice, even on the high mountain areas.

Malmbana
The railroad both Norway and Sweden share is the Malmbanan, Ore Railway in English. You can find a series of articles on this subject. The scenery, the one of the kind rolling stock, the operator and the operations are all very fascinating on this railway! Or you can run along the huge IORe locomotives in the northern wilderness.
